The Final Symposium Project

Transmitting Human Meaning Across Time and Space

In a universe marked by entropy and impermanence, we stand in defiance — building an institution to carry human stories, knowledge, and meaning to the very end of time.

"The single organism can expand into dimensions of worlds and times without moving a limb; it can take eternity into itself even as it gaspingly dies."

The Challenge

Why We Persist

Humans are uniquely aware of their mortality. This awareness drives us to create lasting symbols, stories, and institutions — immortality projects that transcend individual death.

From the ancient inscriptions of Gilgamesh to the Golden Record sailing beyond our solar system, humanity has always reached toward permanence. We build monuments, write epics, launch probes into the void — all attempts to say "we were here."

This project is a successor to those efforts. Not a naive promise of literal immortality, but a speculative institution — a living vessel designed to carry forward human consciousness, meaning, and memory as far as physics allows.

Like the Kataan Council from Star Trek's "The Inner Light," which preserved an entire civilization's memory through a single probe, we ask: How do we persist? How do we ensure our song is heard at the final symposium?

The extent we can think and grasp is the extent of our existence. By broadening our knowledge and reach, we literally broaden humanity's being — pushing outward against the cosmic night.

Our Response

Defiant Optimism

We acknowledge the reality of eventual collapse — no naive promises. Yet in the spirit of Camus, we create meaning in spite of cosmic absurdity.

"One must imagine Sisyphus happy."
— Albert Camus

This is not despair wearing the mask of hope. This is lucid recognition of our condition coupled with fierce commitment to meaning-making. We persist not because we expect to win against entropy, but because the act of persisting is the meaning.

As long as it takes. To the final symposium.
